Our Father

When Jesus lived on the earth, He told people many amazing truths about His Father. Find out what Jesus said about the heavenly Father, who invites you to be part of His family.

You probably remember the story from the Bible about Mary and Joseph, and Jesus being born in a stable. Joseph became Jesus' earthly dad, but when Jesus grew up He told people who His true Father was—God!

On the day Jesus was baptized, the sky opened up and God's voice spoke, saying, "This is my Son, and I love him. I am very pleased with him" (Matthew 3:17).

Jesus Obeys the Father
Sometimes Jesus' Father asked Him to do hard things. Jesus said: "The world must learn that I love the Father. They must also learn that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me to do" (John 14:31).

Jesus did everything God asked because Jesus loved His Father and knew His Father loved Him. God the Father also loved us so much that He sent Jesus to die on the Cross to pay for our sins. That was very hard for Jesus to do, but He obeyed. Then God made Jesus come alive again!

Jesus' Power Comes From the Father
God the Father gave Jesus power to do miracles. One day, some men came to Jesus. They lowered through the roof a man who could not walk. Jesus told the man his sins were forgiven.

Several people thought, How dare Jesus say that! Only God can forgive sins!

Jesus explained that His Father gave Him the permission to forgive sins. Then Jesus told the man to get up and walk. And he did!

The Father Lives in Heaven
Jesus told His disciples that He came from the Father and would return to heaven. They loved Jesus and didn't want Him to go.

Jesus told them: "There are many rooms in my Father's house. If this were not true, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you" (John 14:2).

If you believe Jesus died on the Cross and rose again to pay for your sin, He is preparing a place in His Father's house for you, too!

Jesus died so we could become children of His wonderful Father. He said: "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6).
