Berry Good Jam

5 cups fresh strawberries or raspberries
1 cup sugar
3 tablespoons instant pectin


1. Wash fruit. With a parent's help, hull the strawberries.
2. Pour 1 cup of berries into a plastic bag. Seal the bag, then crush the berries. Repeat, 1 cup at a time, until you have 2½ cups of crushed fruit.
3. Mix sugar and instant pectin together in a large bowl. Add crushed fruit and stir for 3 minutes.
4. Ladle jam into clean 8-ounce jars, leaving ½ inch of space at the top. (This recipe should fill three jars.) Let the jam sit for 30 minutes before tasting.
5. Serve on fresh bread, such as Tara's Delicious Damper from Australia.
6. Jam will store up to 3 weeks in a refrigerator or 1 year in the freezer.
