Easy Applesauce

by Lydia E. Harris

3 large apples
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1. With a parent's help, peel the apples. Ask a parent to remove the cores and cut apples into bite-sized chunks.
2. Pour apples into microwave-safe bowl. Add water and cover.
3. Microwave for 5 minutes or until soft. Poke apples with fork to test for doneness. Apples are cooked when you can easily poke them. If still firm, microwave for 2 to 3 minutes longer and test again.
4. Once cooked, mash apples with potato masher. Add sugar and cinnamon. Stir until mixed. Makes 1¼ cups applesauce.
